Ringing in the New Year on Martha’s Vineyard

Like most of you, we are now falling back into our routines after a lovely holiday season. It felt good to clear out the decorations and get my living room back to normal, call it quits early last night and have an early start this morning. I love heading into a New Year and organizing my goals and dreams for the months ahead!

I have to admit that I fell into the old cliche and spent three days in a row at the gym and tennis center after the 1^st of the year. It is one of my saving graces for the winter as the temperatures outside don’t have the same appeal they used to! The indoor tennis center is a great source of exercise with a social bonus for the quiet winter months on the island.

We also have a YMCA on the island and it is great for my kids as it is just across the street from the High School. We are very fortunate to have it so accessible and with great activities for all ages.

Happy Holidays from Sandpiper Rentals

Every year around the holiday season, Edgartown comes alive with lights, food, holiday cheer, and an abundance of community spirit. Local businesses open up with discounts and treats. Christmas in Edgartown weekend highlights include the Annual Great Chowder Contest, pictures with Santa, the Lighting of the Lighthouse at the Harbor View Hotel, the Christmas parade, shopping and sales, and holiday themed events benefiting Island Charities.

This year, Sandpiper is joining in this annual festivity with tours of local homes available for rental. At each house you’ll get to meet the amazing ladies of Sandpiper Rentals, as well as enjoy warm drinks and special treats.

Also if you go to all houses along the tour, we’ll donate to a local charity on Martha’s Vineyard, Red Stocking Fund, in your name and you will receive a local ornament as our thanks!

The tour will run from 11:30AM-1PM. The local homes include:

44 Morse Street
123 North Water St.
80 South Water St.

A Sense of Fall on Martha’s Vineyard

As the leaves turn, the weather cools and the island hustle and bustle transforms into the slow pace way of life “island life”……The shops are offering sales, the restaurants are serving comfort food, and the fact that you can skip the bathing suit and walk around in leggings, boots and a cozy sweater is in my mind a bonus.

My weekends look a little like this…

Dinner with the Fam:

At The Newes from America– Onion rings, and the simple salad with tenderloin is my favorite. While my husband prefers the buttermilk chicken and my 2 year old son eats the fish and chips and of course the pickles and ice cream that our favorite waitresses Ashley brings.

Or date night out: Alchemy is wonderful. The second floor offers a cozy fireplace and a great bar. The risotto balls are amazing and I love the Jonas crab salad.

Sunday morning breakfast: Black Dog for sure, finally no wait! The French toast is my best friend.

A stroll in Vineyard haven, (to walk off the French toast) into Rainy Day to look at the amazing Christmas ornaments and stocking-stuffers they start to set up.

Top it off with leave cleanup and a visit to Morning Glory Farm for a hot apple cider and donuts to go.
