The Black Dog also owns and runs two tall ships that are available for charter. This is a great experience to go out on the Vineyard sound and assist in setting full sail on these beautiful ships. One ship is fully reliant on wind power in the sails. The Shenandoah is the boat that Captain Douglas sailed with the original black dog that inspired his business. The Alabama runs on engine power and is more versatile while the Black Dog also runs the Chantley. The company supports island schools which charter a boat for one week each year so children have the opportunity to learn the boating history of the island. They can also spend time working the ship while sailing on the ocean.
