There’s really nothing in the world like the charm and sense of community on Martha’s Vineyard. During the Autumn months, holidays give everyone a chance to reconnect after our busy summer vacation rental season. Holidays like Halloween are a fun and delicious time to meet up with friends at events like the following:

Halloween Puppet Parade

Today from 3 to 4PM, there’s a Halloween puppet parade on Main Street in Vineyard Haven. Bring your puppets to the party, beginning at the Mansion House corner with a musical puppet show, weather permitting. Great for those young ones with a great imagination. And don’t forget to go Trick-or-Treating while there, thanks to the Tisbury Business Association.

Halloween Party at Ag Hall

Make sure to end your night with the kids at Ag Hall where they will have games, prizes, refreshments, and a spooky hayride.  All ages are welcome. Sponsored by West Tisbury Parks and Recreation.

YMCA Halloween Dance Party

For that age group that wants to party without the parents (while reassuring your parents you’ll be fine) we have something for you. For middle schoolers in grades 6-8, the YMCA is holding a DJ dance party, light show, with snacks, more. Admission is $5. 7:00PM to 10:00PM

The Ritz Halloween Party

So after the children have had their fun, The Ritz Cafe hosts its annual Halloween party. Rock your costumes for a chance at a $500 cash prize! 21 +

The Atlantic End of the Season Halloween Bash

So if you didn’t have enough on Halloween with all of the events, Saturday, the Atlantic Fish & Chop House ends their season with their annual Halloween bash on November 1st. 21+ only

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year here on Martha’s Vineyard. The fall foliage is in full swing, there’s a crispness in the air, the derby craziness is over, and the entire island gets into the Halloween Spirit. Towns have a special day dedicated to trick-or-treating for the younger children, businesses participate in the annual scarecrow competitions, and the event venues put on halloween costume parties every year.

One of the biggest events around is the annual Halloween Party at the Lampost. Every year a 70’s/80’s disco cover band called, The Boogies, plays well into the night. During their set break is the annual costume contest. If you’re interested in seeing the band play, grab a costume and get on down to the Lampost on Circuit Ave, Thursday October 31st, at 10:00 pm.

The Boogies

Perhaps you’ve made plans, or you’re unable to attend The Boogies. That’s okay because on Wednesday, october 30th, you can join the annual zombie crawl!  The latest Halloween craze to sweep the nation has made its way to Martha’s Vineyard. Now in its second year, the zombie crawl meets at 8pm at the Tabernacle and makes its way throughout downtown Oak Bluffs, making stops along the way to grab a bite. Don’t worry, they only eat food, not actual humans.

Halloween on Martha’s Vineyard

Whether you’re into spooky stuff or just good old fashioned fun, Halloween on Martha’s Vineyard offers some great festivities.

If you love the thrill of the scary, I highly recommend that you hit Bunch of Grapes bookstore where they have a vast collection of haunted stories about the island. And, for the younger set, they’ll have a Halloween-themed story time with mask making at 10:30. Also for kids, the West Tisbury public library will have an event with hayrides and treats from 3-5pm. And there’s annual trick or treating around the island, in the towns of Vineyard Haven and Edgartown (Colonial Inn) specifically – at stores and at private homes.

For the adults on the Vineyard, it’s a whole different bag of tricks! The fantastic restaurant, the Mediterranean, is hosting a fundraising/hellraising party to benefit WVVY (or local radio station that promotes local music and artists). There’ll be a $500 cash prize for best costume. Tickets are $15 advance purchase and $20 at the door.  The party starts at 9 pm.

And, finally, Nectar’s is hosting their 4th Annual Halloween Disco Party! Billed as an ‘insane freakin’ disco inferno Halloween costume party’, the festivities will feature The Boogies – the Vineyard’s favorite 10-piece live disco tribute band. Prizes, games, hilarity to be had. 21+; $20 admission.

Fall is a great time to come to the Vineyard – great vacation rental rates, beautiful foliage, quiet, warm days and cool nights. We hope to see you soon! Let me know if I can help you find a rental for you and yours! Happy Halloween and stay safe!
