Description Description

The Lothrop Merry House is an antique cape that dates back to around 1810. It was relocated to its current site, which overlooks Vineyard Haven Harbor, in 1824, transported by a team of 40 oxen. The house is built into a hillside, with the front door facing the harbor and the front lawn extending down to the beach.

Inside, the house features five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and an outdoor shower. One of the bedrooms is located on the ground level, providing direct access to the water. The main floor includes a bedroom that opens onto the upper patio and driveway, while the remaining three bedrooms are situated on the second floor. Four of the bedrooms offer scenic views of the water, while the fifth overlooks the gardens.

The property is conveniently located directly across from Owen Park, which has a small town beach with a lifeguard during the summer season and a town dock. It is just a short walk along the beach to the Vineyard Haven ferry or a pleasant stroll along Main Street, where you'll find various restaurants and shopping options.

Fit for a Kennedy family reunion
The pictures don't do it justice. The lawn sweeps down to the harbor, you can sit all day watching the boats sail by or walk down to the beach for a swim. The interior is perfectly decorated with plenty of space. June is a perfect month on the Vineyard, the water is warming up, the shops are open and 5 corners in not a parking lot. We loved it. tom

Beautiful home & great location!
We couldn't have asked for a better home base for our Martha's Vineyard vacation. The property was wonderful, with a beautiful sweeping lawn to relax and enjoy gorgeous water views of Vineyard Haven harbor. The home itself was beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and had everything we needed. It was well stocked with all the supplies you could need and more. We appreciated the special touch from Sandpiper rentals who provided a welcome packet with information on local activities to help us make the most of our time on the island. We enjoyed cookouts on the patio in the evening and sipping coffee in the morning while watching the boats sail in and out of the harbor. The outdoor shower after a day at the beach was delightful! The location was excellent - within walking distance to the Vineyard Haven ferry, shops and top notch restaurants, as well as easy drives to explore beaches and attractions in nearby Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. We even made a few trips out to Aquinnah Cliffs and Menemsha sunsets during our week-long stay. The drives were scenic and relaxing, and a highlight of the trip! Highly recommend this property for a beautiful and relaxing vacation!
