The Lothrop Merry House is an antique cape dating from about 1810. It was moved to its present location overlooking Vineyard Haven Harbor in 1824, drawn into place by a team of 40 oxen. The house is set into a hill, with the front door facing the harbor and the front lawn running down to the beach. There are a total of five bedrooms, 6 non-working decorative fireplaces and three baths in this vineyard home as well as an open outdoor shower. The house fronts on the water with a walk out bedroom located at ground level to the water. The second floor bedroom is on the main floor and opens out to the upper patio and driveway. Upper bedrooms are on the top floor. Four of the bedrooms offer a water view and the fifth is overlooking the gardens. Located directly across from Owen Park, which includes a small town beach and lifeguard during the summer season and town dock. A short walk along the beach to the Vineyard Haven ferry or along Main Street's town center with restaurants, movie theater and shopping.

We couldn't have asked for a better home base for our Martha's Vineyard vacation. The property was wonderful, with a beautiful sweeping lawn to relax and enjoy gorgeous water views of Vineyard Haven harbor. The home itself was beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and had everything we needed. It was well stocked with all the supplies you could need and more. We appreciated the special touch from Sandpiper rentals who provided a welcome packet with information on local activities to help us make the most of our time on the island. We enjoyed cookouts on the patio in the evening and sipping coffee in the morning while watching the boats sail in and out of the harbor. The outdoor shower after a day at the beach was delightful! The location was excellent - within walking distance to the Vineyard Haven ferry, shops and top notch restaurants, as well as easy drives to explore beaches and attractions in nearby Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. We even made a few trips out to Aquinnah Cliffs and Menemsha sunsets during our week-long stay. The drives were scenic and relaxing, and a highlight of the trip! Highly recommend this property for a beautiful and relaxing vacation!
