SUN ROOM

Up-Island. It’s quiet, it’s easy. You don’t have to wear shoes if you don’t want to. And even the most posh dinner is fine eaten in khakis or jeans. The pace is just slower up here, everyone’s on beach time. This part of the island also features some of the best beaches, and this Chilmark rental comes with stickers (access) to the prized Squibnocket and Lucy Vincent beaches – spots so special that you practically need a map and a secret password to find them!

Good-living. Open spaces, bright sunlight, a fireplace for those cool and cozy Chilmark nights! This house sleeps eight and the dining room table seats ten. Honestly, the house is just beautiful and the land around it is plentiful – and so very green during the Vineyard summer.

Martha’s Vineyard Treasures: Art Galleries

Lightangle by Marilyn Ruseckas

Long known for its reputation as a creative haven for artists, Martha’s Vineyard features many phenomenal art galleries across the island. Painting, photography, sculpture, glass and ceramics/pottery – we’ve got it all! So many, in fact, that I’m going to just give you a taste of some favorites here…

The Granary Gallery at the Red Barn is in West Tisbury and is an incredible venue. Besides regular shows throughout the season, the gallery is big enough to remain stocked with paintings, sculpture and more. Plan to spend some time walking around the barn looking at works from Wick Ahrens, Thomas Hart Benton, Anda Styler and more.

Alison Shaw is one of the island’s most prized possessions. A photographer, Alison’s images are often infused with the Vineyard – though she does travel worldwide. Alison’s studio is in the Arts District in Oak Bluffs and features revolving shows throughout the season. She also offers photography workshops.

The Dragonfly Gallery features award winning contemporary fine arts and the best and most exciting regional and national artists. The summer holds artist talks, collector parties, open houses, trunk shoes and more with artists Carole LaRoche, Jill Shwaiko Bentz and many more.

The Field Gallery is West Tisbury, right across from Alley’s General Store, is an up-island mainstay with an actual field gallery of sculpture and three interior galleries with rotating artists. Every Sunday from 5-7 is a new artist reception! Featured artsist include: Maley Estate, Patience Brewster, Heather Blume and more.

Edgartown Art Gallery The Edgartown Art Gallery has two locations in town, the Originals gallery is located on South Summer Street, next to the Charlotte Inn and the Print gallery, located in the Colonial Inn Shops on Winter Street. Both galleries represent all of the Edgartown Art Gallery artists including: Ray Ellis, Eric Conklin, Sergio Roffo, Timothy Thies, Marjorie Mason and many more.

With all of its galleries, artists and shows, the Vineyard is the perfect art collector and/or lover’s vacation spot!

Martha’s Vineyard Vacation Rental: Aquinnah Beach House

aquinnah cliffs

One of the many things that makes Aquinnah so special is the drive. There is no instant gratification, let me put it that way. Unless you count the drive itself. Aquinnah rests at the most westernly point on Martha’s Vineyard, asking visitors to drive all the way across the islandĀ  to get there. Depending on where you start, you’ll get to see bustling towns, state forest, pastures, woodlands and shorelines on your way.

aquinnah house

This quintessential Aquinnah beach house has everything you need for the perfect visit to this ancient, native, quiet tip of the island. The most noticeable is the Second floor viewing post. Most Aquinnah houses boast a second story balcony or deck allowing its inhabitants to see over the trees and right to the beach and this house is no exception – it actually has two off the bedrooms. The sunsets in Aquinnah are legendary as the colors bounce off the cliffs. And this house also features a large back deck for extra viewing.

Dog Fish Bar Beach is 100 yards from the house – making it perfect for playing, swimming, surfing, strolling and sunbathing whenever you want. You don’t have to pack the cooler for this trip to the surf, unless you really, really just want to lay down in the sand and not move all day!

diningroom

The house is almost as beautiful as its outside setting – but nothing’s that gorgeous! Wood furniture and trim throughout are compliemented by huge windows letting in sun and ocean air. The dining room table is long and strong – ready for all of the lobsters, local tomatoes & corn on the cob and pie you care to load on top!
