Halloween on Martha’s Vineyard!

Martha's Vineyard Halloween

I know it was a couple of weeks ago, but it was so impressionable that my husband, Owen and I will be making this an annual event.

This year Halloween fell on the weekend that Owen was commuting to the island…we alternate our weekends on and off the island since we also still own a home in Mansfield MA. Besides, Thanksgiving, Christmas and his birthday, Halloween is one of my husband’s favorite holidays. Frankly, it frightens me too much and I am anxious for it to pass. NOT this year. I picked Owen up at 5:45 in Vineyard Haven from the Steamship Authority (which runs year round) and we casually walked up Union Street, crossing Main Street, left on Church and finally a right or left on the infamous William Street. During our walk, we were all smiles and laughter due to the adorable children and most of the adults in and out of the storefronts all dressed in full costume. As we strolled to our William Street destination, the exterior lighting, ghoulish music, dry iced lawns were so impressive. Everyone was full of enthusiasm and having a blast. We later learned that each year there are approximately 700 to 1000 “treaters” that come through to show off their garb and grab a special treat. For safety sake most neighboring roads were closed to vehicle traffic during the prime hours of the evening.

My husband’s exact words when we reached our car to head home, “This was the best Halloween of my entire life!” We are both in our 50’s and as you can imagine have been through our fair share of Halloween events, but this one tops them all. Can’t wait for Halloween 2015 on MV – how about you?

Wednesday Wonderings #WW: What’s Your Price Point for Rentals on Martha’s Vineyard ?

How to Determine a Price Point for your Rental?

Martha’s Vineyard is not so very different than most places.  You basically get what you pay for.  On the moderate side – a simple three bedroom vacation home in Katama will range from $2100-$3,000/wk.  As you add amenities like air conditioning, upgraded furnishings, screened porch, outdoor living your rate increases.

The high ticket rental usually has some water orientation whether it have views and/or access to the beach.  These rentals range from $6000/wk and up.

As the saying goes: location, location, location!

Meet The Agents Monday: Anne Mayhew

One of my favorite things to do in the off season on Martha’s Vineyard is get together with friends for a small intimate dinner and reconnect after the busy summer season.  My husband, Jonathan, and I had the opportunity to do this last week and had a lovely meal at L’Etoile in Edgartown.  It was the perfect venue to meet up with our friend Lil and have a quiet meal at a small table in the bar area.  The menu had lots of choices that accommodated all of our tastes from Octopus to Duck to Halibut to a terrific Bailey’s Crème Brule.  I can see why this is a popular spot for our summer vacation visitors and highly recommend you give it a try.   It can be on the pricey side but you can count on Michael, the chef, coming through with a terrific meal.  Also, a great wine list that gave the perfect finishing touch to a great evening out with great friends.
